Mangalore, Sep 30: Mulky town panchayat held their monthly meeting at the panchayat hall on Monday September 29.
Member Radhika Yadav complained that there are street light problems in Chitrapu scheduled class colony. Meanwhile, most members expressed their anguish that they have streetlight problems in their wards and that there was no response for complaints. Former president B M Asif said that even though the concerned people come after complaints, they only see the lights and go. "If they repair the lights, those go off again within a day," he added. The standing committee president said that he would look into the matter.
"There are complaints from Mulki town panchayat staff fixing their own rates for different tasks and harassing people. Middlemen have increased. The peoples representatives should take stringent action. If not, we will get a bad name," said B M Asif. The president pacified him saying that a CC Camera will be installed in the panchayat office.
"Mulki town panchayat is now known for unwanted incidents. The developments have made us sad as the opposition. We are not informed about problems. The incidents that could have been solved by us reached the police station," he said.
Member Putthu Bava said that the employees union came to know of the problems in the panchayat before them and questioned whether it could be a conspiracy to drive away the chief official.
"The opposition should not be kept away during problems. We are not called during press conference," said opposition leader Vimala Poojary
expressing her displeasure. The president assured that they will ensure such things do not occur.
Though police have arrested some who used to come to K S Rao town's night school and create troubles. "The culprits who defecate in the school veranda and vicinity should be taken to task," B M Asif said. The president said that police have increased patrolling in the area and those who wander around suspiciously will be disciplined.
Mulki town panchayat president Meenakshi Bangera presided over the meeting. Standing committee president Sunil Alva, office superintendent Shashikala, engineer Padmanabha and health official Rajesh were present. Chief official Vani Alva conducted the meeting. Vice president Vasanti Bhandary proposed the vote of thanks.
