Udupi, Sep 19: District legal services Authority president Shivashankara B Amarannanavar said that Lok Adalat will be held from September 1, 2014 to December 6, 2014 to speed up the hearing of cases in district.
He was speaking in a press conference held in city at the district session court.
Amarannanavar said out of 22,000 cases pending in the courts in the district, around 9,000 can be sorted out in Lok Adalats through reconciliation without involving the court.
Lok Adalat can save a lot of time, energy and money of the aggrieved parties. He promised that court fees paid earlier in connection with the cases will be refunded once these cases go to Lok Adalat. He also said the judgment delivered at the Lok Adalat would be the same without having any difference with the settled court. He asked the people of the district to benefit from the Lok Adalat drive.
He informed that 150 cases have already been solved by Lok Adalat in this month already. “Every day afternoon at 3 pm the Lok Adalat will be held and the matters would be sorted out on the same day. People are advised to take help from District Legal Services Authority and Taluk Legal Services to approach Lok Adalat”, he added.
Lok Adalat is empowered to handle criminal cases like cheque bounce cases, cases involving motor vehicles, family matters , compensation matters, land cases, revenue department cases, civil cases, telecom cases involving companies including BSNL, recovery of dues, forest, excise, traffic cases and many more small cases.
District Legal Services Authority secretary Nagajyothi KA, additional civil judge Milana, additional senior civil judge Chandrashekar and chief civil judge Sunitha were present in the press conference.
