Mangalore, Sep 22: In view of the newer skills in social work, there has emerged a trend to neglect group work. With this one can find that group work is being distanced by the new generation of social workers, observed founder principal of School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Olinda Pereira on Friday Sep 22.

She was speaking at the inaugural function of the three-day south India-level conference on ‘Group Work in Health Care Setting – Recent Trends’ in the Seminar Hall of the college.

The event was inaugurated by K Ashraf, mayor, Mangalore City Corporation.

Delivering the keynote address, president of Indian Affiliate to the Association for the advancement of Social Work with Groups, Nagpur (AASWAG) Manohar Golpelwar highlighted the various effective social work models which were based on group work.

Jacinta D’Souza, principal, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya who will presided over the programme stressed on the need to form support groups for HIV/AIDS and physically and mentally challenged.

Dr J Prabhudeva, district surgeon, D K district, and Dr Olinda Pereira, founder principal, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, will be the chief guests.

The conference was orgnaised by School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya in association with AASWAG, Nagpur.

Convenor of the event Meena Pereira, AASWAG secretary Beena Choudry, lecturer Dr Ramila Shekar and former Mayor Shashidar Hegde were also present at the event.
