Gaborone (Botswana), Sep 9 (IANS): Botswana sport teams have put a high priority on the Ebola virus ahead of several international tournaments the country is currently taking part in.
The country's health officials have put in measures to educate athletes and officials alike on the dangers of the virus and preventive measures before they embark on international trips or welcome foreign teams for home games, reports Xinhua.
This past week, the national football team, the Zebras, travelled to Tunisia for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match while the under-23 women's volleyball team travelled to Algeria for the African cup. Both teams went through crucial lectures prior to their departure.
Meanwhile, the Senegalese national football team is expected to arrive in Botswana Tuesday even though they are not screened for Ebola.
The Botswana Football Association (BFA) had expressed concerns about the match but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) swept their anxiety aside saying the match should go ahead as scheduled.
The Teranga Lions are scheduled to play Botswana's Zebras Wednesday night here in the first leg match of the 2015 Group G AFCON qualifiers.
An Ebola outbreak in West Africa has already claimed more than 2000 lives and governments of unaffected countries like Botswana are doing everything to ensure the viral disease does not spread to theirs.
Botswana has already blocked its citizens from travelling to Ebola affected countries and does not grant anyone coming from those countries entry without proper screening and quarantining.
