Peru striker cleared of pushing referee

Rio de Janeiro, Sep 9 (IANS) Peru international striker Paolo Guerrero has been cleared of intentionally pushing over a referee.

The 30-year-old collided with match official Leandro Bizzio Marinho during Corinthians 1-0 victory over Bragantino in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals last month, reports Xinhua.

He had faced the prospect of a 180-day ban if found guilty.

A five-member panel of Brazil's Superior Sports Tribunal Monday voted unanimously in favour of the former Bayern Munich forward.

"I don't think he even realised the referee was there," judge Felipe Bevilacqua was quoted saying by the Globo newspaper.

Guerrero is free to play in Corinthians' home clash against Atletico Mineiro Thursday.
