Mangalore, Sep 16: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) initiated the airport information management system at Bajpe (Mangalore) airport on Friday.
N. B. Mathur, general manager (information technology), AAI, Delhi, who addressed the employees of AAI at the airport, on the occasion, said the system was launched to standardise the management of airports in the country.
Commissioned
So far, the system had been commissioned in 14 airports including Mangalore airport. AAI would introduce the same in eight more airports shortly, he added.
He said the system facilitated automatic data pick up from various units at the airport and provided processed data on the intranet website.
It also provided integration with other core information technology applications including integrated financial and personnel information management system and other application packages like inventory and maintenance management application system of the AAI.
From passengers point of view it enables them to register suggestions, complaints and to know movement of flights in other airports that have the same system. It also facilitates handling of lost and left behind baggage of passengers. It helps passengers to know the status of retiring rooms.
Airline operators can update the flight information by using the system. Mr. Mathur said touch screen kiosks would be set up at Bajpe airport shortly. Till then they could approach the terminal manager for information, he said.
The system has provision to facilitate allocation of parking bays for planes.
The director of the airport, M. R. Vasudev, presided over the function.
AAI also observed Engineers' Day today. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Vasudev said that the work culture and professional skills of late M. Visvesaraya was worth emulating. Senior officials of the airport were present.
