Mangalore, Sep 15: The sudden rains which gave relief to the people in the district are now causing problem with low-lying areas facing the danger being marooned. It has been raining heavily in most of the parts of the district and even in the Udupi district in the last couple of days. While the showers have been a blessing for the farmers, they would surely turn in to curse if it continues to rain in the same manner and measure.
The Kodikal, Kottar Chowki and surrounding areas were marooned for quite long time on Thursday September 14 owing to faulty drainage system. Water had even made way into some houses at Dhoomappanagar near Kottar Chowki on Thursday.
Water was flowing on the road at Kottar Chowki, Jyothi Circle and other areas on Thursday morning. Though rain subsided by afternoon, the situation was not different on Friday morning owing to heavy rains on Thursday night. Traffic too was affected at Kuntikan, Kulai and other areas owing to heavy rains.
Meanwhile the city is gearing up for Janmashthami celebrations on Friday night. But weather reports said that heavy rains are expected even on Friday. But the people and the organizers are of the opinion that nothing can stop them from celebrating Janmashthami.
