Mangalore, Sep 13: The Ullal police led by SI A D Nagaraj have arrested illegally transported spirit at Talapady on Wednesday September 13 morning.

The arrested has been identified as Annu alias Arvind.  His accomplice has however, managed to escape.  The police had received a sure tip-off that spirit was being illegally transported to Kerala via Kasargod.

Based on this, the police stopped a recklessly driven 407 tempo at Talapady check post.  Sensing the danger, one person who was in the tempo with Annu, jumped out and escaped.  But the police succeeded in nabbing Annu.

The total value of the spirit and the seized tempo is said to be more than Rs 3 lac.  The spirit was stored in cans which were kept inside plastic boxes inside the tempo.  These kind of plastic boxes are usually used in transporting fish.  It was deliberately done to mislead the police.
