'Cooling period required for judges before accepting posts'

Panaji, Sep 2 (IANS): Retired judges should go through a 'cooling off' period before taking up other job assigned to them by governments, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik said Tuesday.

Commenting on the possible appointment of former Supreme Court chief justice P. Sathasivam as Kerala governor, Naik said: "Ideally a cooling period is needed for all Supreme Court and high court judges before accepting such appointments and chairmanship of commissions."

Naik is a former chairperson of a parliamentary standing committee on law and justice.

Congress leader Naik is Goa's only Rajya Sabha member.
