Beltangady, Sep 1: After a girl fell from the second floor of a building near the bus stand here on Sunday August 31, her father jumped to the ground reportedly in an anxiety to save her. Both were critically injured and were admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.

Sevanti (12) from Didupe in Malavantige village in the taluk and her father, Hemachandra (58) suffered extensive injuries in this tragic incident. Reportedly, Hemachandra brought Sevanti and his son to Beltangady on Sunday for meeting a doctor as his children were unwell since sometime. In the afternoon, some people near the building heard the sound of some heavy object hitting the ground with a thud. By the time those nearby checked what had happened and saw that girl had fallen from the building, her father also fell to the ground next to her.

The locals immediately took both of them, who had suffered critical injuries, to a hospital here. After providing initial care, both were shifted to a hospital in Mangalore. It is learnt that Sevanti's condition is precarious.

Both the children of Hemachandra were suffering from ill health since long. It is said that the father had been suffering from psychological fatigue as both the children were not showing signs of improvement in health, although they were being treated since many days.
