Udupi, Aug 31: “Belapu grama in Kaup has grown in a unique manner. The village which is an example in the country is also celebrating ‘Ganeshotsava’ in a special way as an ideal example to the nation. The struggle and power of incorporation of Dr Deviprasad Shetty is behind the achievement,” said Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister of urban development and Udupi district-in-charge minister.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Benaka building built to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Paniyoor Community Sri Ganeshotsava Committee in a programme held on Thursday August 28.
Dr Deviprasad Shetty Belapu who was awarded the International Almat University honorary doctorate and Nepal government’s award was honoured with ‘Grama Ratna’ award on the occasion. International Arya Bhata award recipient businessman K Manohar Shetty was felicitated with the ‘Dana Ratna’ award during the programme.
Dakshina Kannada District Central Co-operative Bank president Dr M N Rajendra Kumar who presided over the programme spoke on the occasion and said that Dr Shetty has ensured the development of the co-operative sector and development of the village in equal measure.
Family Welfare Trust president Nadoja Dr G Shanker, chief guest, said that the dream of Grama Rajya seen by Mahatma Gandhi has materialized in Belapu and hoped it would be a model to other villages.
Janapada scholar K L Kundantaya gave thecongratulatory speech. Kaup Bantara Sanga president K Vasudev Shetty, Poona entrepreneur Ermalu Chandrahasa Shetty, Ellooru Vishweswara temple managing trustee Y Prafulla Shetty, Udupi Zilla Co-operative Union president Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu, land donor Vatsa Rao, Lokesh Shetty Belapuguthu, Heera D Shetty, Anuradha M Shetty Belapu, C A Bank vice-president Niranjana Shetty Paniyooru, and Belapu Milk Producer’s Union president Dinesh Shetty were the guests.
