Mangalore, Aug 31 (DHNS): Veteran journalist Narayan Raghuveer Ubhaya, better known as N R Ubhaya, who had retired as Principal Correspondent of Mangalore Bureau in The New Indian Express, passed away at a private hospital on Friday night. He was 75.

Ubhaya, son of Raghuveer Ubhaya who retired as Railway Magistrate, had served in The New Indian Express for nearly two decades. He was a resident of Kotekar.

Prior to joining Indian Express, he had served as a reporter in many Kannada dailies including Navabharat, Kannada Vani, Samyukta Karnataka and Kannada Prabha. He had also worked as a correspondent in UNI for some time.

He had also launched an evening Kannada daily ‘Janraj’ during Emergency. A former senate member of Mangalore University and DK Telecom Advisory Committee, he retired from Indian Express in 2002.

Ubhaya also had donated three cents of land to help devotees build a Ayappa temple close to his house. Ubhaya is survived by his wife Nandini Ubhaya and Son Bharat.

Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary, Health Minister U T Khadar, MLA J R Lobo and Mayor Mahabala Marla among others have condoled the death of Ubhaya.
