Annual 20th Kelucharan Mohapatra Awardees announced

Bhubaneshwar, Aug 30: Four accomplished artistes from various avenues of entertainment have been chosen for the prestigious Kelucharan Mohapatra Award which is in its 20th year this year. Started by Srjan an organisation founded by the Odissi Guru late Kelucharan Mohapatra, the award acknowledges artistes for their contribution to the fields of Odissi dance, theatre, cinema and music.

The artists being awarded are Sudhakar Sahoo a dance teacher,theatre artist Niranjan Satpathy, Umesh Chandra for music, and Prashanth Nanda from the film industry. Each award carries a cash prize of 50,000 rupess along with a citation and a momento. The awards were instituted by Kelucharan Mohapatra's son Ratikant, as per the latter's wishes. 41 Artists have been given these prestigious awards since its establishment.

The five day program will witness performances such as Carnatic flute by Sasank Subramanium from Chennai, Odishi by Ramil Ibrahim of Malaysia, Saggy Baggy (group presentation of Odishi vy Daksha Mashruwala from Mumbai, drums by Anandan Shivamani and Sitar by Neeladri Kumar among others. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the chief guest of the concluding ceremony will give away the awards on September 9.
