Mangalore: Daijiworld impact - J R Lobo inspects Kadri Park, promises to set it right in a week

Mangalore, Aug 28: Taking serious note of the report on daijiworld regarding the pathetic condition of city's Kadri Park, MLA J R Lobo along with the mayor, MCC officials and officers of the horticulture department inspected the park on Thursday August 28 and assured of cleaning up the park within a week.

Daijiworld on August 25 had carried a report on Kadri Park turning into hotbed of undesirable and illegal activities. The report highlighted the poor maintainence of cleanliness in the premises and how the park had become a meeting place for thieves.

Armed with copies of the report and photographs published in daijiworld, J R Lobo and the mayor with their team of officials inspected the park and discussed measures to rejenuvate and maintain it.

Speaking to reporters later, Lobo said, "Earlier there was water problem in the park, but now there is no such problem. The main problem is in maintaining the park. From the last two months, the maintenance was very unsatisfactory."

He further said the state government has been asked to sanction Rs one crore for the development of the park, and this year Rs 5 lac was released for its maintenance. "We will talk to the DC and within a week the park will be cleaned and set right," he assured.

Stating that the park was for all, including young couples, he said, "Many youngsters come to the park, they also need space, and so too senior citizens. This is a place for everyone. Adequate security has been deployed and police personnel have been coming to the park especially at night."

On the defunct toy train, he said he would talk to the DC within a week and arrive at a suitable decision.

"There is electricity in the park and additional lights have been installed, but some miscreants have been stealing bulbs and wires. It is responsibility of the people also to take care of the park," he said.

He added that though the park is facing problems, its condition is better than earlier.

About his earlier promise made in 2013 to rejuvenate the park within 15 months, Lobo said the development work is going on steadily but due to rains the work got delayed.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla said that the toy train was operating from 1996 to 2007, but he did not know what happened thereafter, as the file had gone 'missing' from the MCC. To this, the other officials said that the responsibility of the toy train had been handed over to Bal Bhavan.

"We will guide the officials in maintaining the park. We have also asked the police to inspect the park regularly so as to prevent illegal activities here," he said.

Politicians never enter such places without any motives or any reasons!! It took 1.5 years to see this Park in a pathetic situation for a MLA, it will take another one year for design, decision making for appointing a contractor and will take another 3 years to complete such works, finally after another 2 years a new MLA/MP/CM will come to inaugurate the new (cleaned) Park .... lets wait for that day!! JAI HO!!

At am a regular visitor for Kadripark for my evening walks. I have noticed many people urinating . This should be strictly stopped. There are 2 lady Constable in the park they don't say anything even if
they see. Hence the MCC should put up large notices, Urinating, littering will be fined and police constable should be given instructions to monitor and deal with them.

You don't have to wait for daiji to report the Park problems to take action. Where are the park inspectors ? Why have you not installed solar system? Why are you not charging a fee for everyone to enter the park ? Why are you so lethargic in carrying out the maintenance work in the park ? Who is responsible for the day to day security of the park ? Do you want to keep the park open even after say 8 pm? Where the local reps including MLA, Ministers and MP and what are they doing ?? Is it that they visit only after they read the reports in the papers ?? This is something like trying to install a fire extinguisher in a building which has already caught fire and destroyed !! Do you get me dear reader ?? I want this park to be a model park appreciated by all. Let this park be featured and pictured in the Mangalore tourism leaflet so that the tourists can visit the park. Generate money from the visitor's entry fee to the park and use it to maintain and beautify the park. Is anyone bothered ???

Kadri Park should be maintained well.
There are Big Companies in Mangalore who can maintain the same under their CSR. OR
A very nominal charge of Rs 2 to Rs 5, per person ,with children under 12 free, could be levied which will take care of the Upkeep of this park. A walking track could be laid and a Monthly /Yearly fees could be collected.
I am sure no one will mind these suggestions...Lets All keep Mangalore Clean N Green..... .

    @ Satya,

I fully agree with your comments. My memory flashed back to forgone days.

Those olden days couples or lovers could have cozy/relaxed time in the parks, (Tagor, Ladyhill or Kadri)without fear of moral police or an intruder. People use to respect each other and no one was interested in others affairs but time has changed now in Mangalore.

Our MLA Mr.JR LOBO .....need to know these facts of Kadri Park through Daijiworld. He is a resident of Shivabagh road Kadri.
I think each and every problem Daijiworld should highlight in their portal so these MLA's and Corporators as well as MP's will know the rpoblems by other media or else they can't ask or have a look while moving towards circuit house atleast they can visit these kind of placesThese MLA's MP's most of the time go to circuit house but they had never bothered to have a look in these areas.
So many people talk about these unethical and illegal things happening in Kadri Park from so many years, while reading from my comments some of them who had a wonderful time in their younger days will remember their activities where they have done lot of things in this Park. This is not the new thing happening in kadri park this happens since from my childhood.

Knowing fully well that MCC or Govt bodies cannot manage, why take sanctions and not use them for the park.

No lights after 7 pm, so dark and frightening.

No proper walk ways. Left half done. But money taken fully.

    No trimming and no maintenance.
Gates half done and money fully paid.

See the parks maintained by private houses, what a difference.

Auction the park or give to a private body and see the difference.

Example. BSNL versus other private telecom operators.

    Everyone can feel the difference

In the world of today, media is playing significant role in the society. Media is considered as "mirror" of the modern society and thanks to Daijiword who have been rendering their services (without cast, creed and religion) and also remain active in raising financial help to the needy & genuine cases, through their forum.
As someone already suggested that some nominal fee could be charged on the visitors to the park and this may contribute in the maintenance of the park.
As promised by Mr. J.R. Lobo, let us hope for positive developments ASAP so that people can take full utility of the park.

Mr. Lobo - jo oh boltha hai oh jaroor kartha hai.

    Good luck.
