Mangalore, Aug 27: The police have arrested five persons in connection to the celebration of renowned writer U R Ananthamurthy's death.
The arrested are K B Manoj Poojary (30) of Ujjodi, Vijesh Poojary (24) of Shaktinagar, Sharath Shetty (20) of Amblamogaru, Anil, a resident of Pumpwell and Umesh.
Soon after news of U R Ananthamurthy's death was flashed in the media on August 22, members of a right wing group, said to be Bajrang Dal, gathered at Kadri welcome arch and celebrated by bursting crackers.
Among the accused, Manoj, Vijesh and Sharath were arrested by Kadri police led by inspector T D Nagaraj on Tuesday August 26.
Anil and Umesh were among the persons arrested in connection to the assault on cattle transporters Shoukath, Sameer and Sadiq on the night of August 23. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
It is learnt that Sharath, Manoj and Vijesh have already been granted bail.
