Girl files 'ragging' complaint against two Mangalore varsity boys

Mangalore, Aug 26 (DHNS): In a case of ragging, a girl student of Mangalore University has complained against two boys of forcefully showing her porn material in the computer science laboratory on the university campus.

The girl, it is learnt, submitted a complaint to the chairperson of the department, in which she has accused the two senior boys in final year MCA, of forcing her to watch pornography.

Following the incident that took place on August 12, the girl called the toll-free number of the Human Resource Development department and orally gave a complaint. The department soon contacted the university to enquire into the issue.

Meanwhile, she submitted a written complaint to the department chairperson, in which she demanded action against the offenders. The girl has left the college midway, citing the “university offered low-quality education” and she has already got a seat in a better private university. She is said to have mentioned in the complaint of having undergone “sort of ragging” by male students.

Sources said the complaint, filed by the girl, has been forwarded to university’s anti-ragging committee, which is inquiring into the issue.

Mangalore University Registrar B S Yedapadithaya said he was awaiting the committee’s enquiry report, which he is likely to receive in two days.

Though the girl is said to have filed a complaint in Konaje police station, the police refused to divulge information.

Even I belong to the same department. Such kind of incident haven't taken place. an Educational institute will never give authority to access such sites. During lab hour everybody will be present in the lab so there no chances for such incident.

Feminists(i don't want to mention names here) jump at guys at the of a hat before even using commonsense to think if such a thing can happen in M'lore univ. How can anybody force a girl - did they drag her by hair and brought her in front of computer? As two gals of that univ itself have pointed out below... feminists can have their last cry when truth comes out

We are also from the same department and this is news to us. Why would we not be aware if such an incident took place? For the most part, our boys are decent, dignified people. We have never experienced any such harassment or such activities. We girls do not wish to cast aspersions on anyone, least of all a victim. But in this case, there is some mischief afoot. Why would the girl leave ostensibly because of the "low quality of education" here? If this incident had taken place, would it not be the main reason quoted? We welcome any inquiry into the matter and let the guilty be indeed punished. But if this turns out to be a frivolous, baseless complaint, will suitable action be taken against this girl for bringing disrepute to our institution or causing the loss of honour for our students? A note - we have absolutely no idea who the girl is and none of the seniors do. Such incidents do not remain hidden if they take place. So why is it that none of us even have a whisper of such a thing happening? If you cannot name the girl for obvious reasons, at least name the alleged perpetrators. As someone else has pointed out, such sites cannot be accessed from college networks. So how did this purported event take place? An inquiry is not only welcome, but given the circumstances we demand it, in order to clear the fair name of our institution and our people.

I wanted to redraft the comment. There are few comments from the folks belonging to same department and they claim all these are fake allegations. Now what to say. May be the department and the police ( as already complaint is in ) are to drive the investigation and see who are the real culprits. If boys, debar them. If girls found culprits logging false complaints, debar them from any institutions for life time.

Brave girl, you have done a good work, I appeal all the girls whoever undergoes such kind of nuisance should report to police or Authority. I suppose All the colleges and schools have the same problem. But none dares to do or take some action.

This is not right. These kinds of sites are blocked in all educational institutions. The allegations are are completely false. I believe, girls should not misuse the powers given to them to spoil others life,Or else no one will have reason to believe us when we really fall in trouble.

if at all she wanted to quit the college, she could have done it by her own will, for a reason she shouldn't have falsely charge wrong allegations on others. this itself is a crime. so all these stories are fabricated on her favor to quit college.

Our Bollywood and other films always encouraged a sort of mild ragging. The conclusion was that a boy is able to befriend a girl only after a lot of effort and going after her and teasing her. The time has changed. Women are well educated now and there is no harm in communicating with women in a decent way. There is no need for ragging. In case some one likes a girl go to them and tell them so. In case the girl does not like the boy leaver alone. Han kaheto chodna nahi na kahen to choona nahin. Boys it is simple. Give respect to girls and they will respect you. No need to harrass them.

where are we heading to. Final year MCA students... so educated folks, future of our nation, place is their Computer Lab... feeling a lot when we hear all these. We have a major challenge to get rid of these issues... unless we all work hard to bring our youth outside of this trap they are in to.. could be because of media, mobiles, internet, drugs ... anything. we all need to work hard to get them on track. either by mentoring them, explaining them, restricting them, punishing them if required... or else our tomorrow will be very very dark.

Ragging is VERY BIG menace should rooted out.
Students focus should be gaining education and wisdom not corrupting their own mind and of others WHO DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THEIR VIEWS.
Ragging children are ruining their parents, victims parents, institution and society as well.
On proven charges, they should be punished like RAPE convicts.
