Mangalore, Aug 23: Youth Congress and NSUI (National Students Union of India) held a protest against the inhuman tendency of Bajarang Dal for celebrating the death of Jnapeeth award wining Litterateur U R Ananthamurthy by firing crackers in the city on Friday August 23.
The protest was held in-front of Town Hall, near clock tower here on Saturday August 24.
Addressing the protest, MLC Ivan D'Souza said, "U R Ananthamurthy is a great litterateur; his death is a huge loss to the field of literature. The state government has declared three-day mourning as a mark of respect. Showing disrespect towards the death of a great writer is really a shame to the district. The inhuman tendency of Bajarang Dal miscreants have the put district in shame."
"Those miscreants are not fit to live in a civilized district like Dakshina Kannada. They should barred from the state. No Indian can tolerate this type of attitude. No human being can celebrate the death. This is a insult to the district. This has hurt the sentiments of many. The Bajarang Dal should be boycotted and banned. The miscreants should be booked under the goonda act," he added.
Veteran leader Kalige Tharanath Shetty said, "It is a black day for us. The police should file an FIR against the miscreants and invoke the goonda act; they should also be exterminated. Bajarang Dal should be banned. This act of BD is shameful to our Sanatha Dharma. We also demand the Home Ministry and police department to take action against them. People of Dakshina Kannada condemn this type of tendency."
Mithun Rai, the district president of Youth Congress said, "U R Ananthamurthy is a great litterateur. His contribution has brought credit to the state. These goons are a black mark to Dakshina Kannada. We demand the government and police to invoke the Goonda act against these miscreants. Youth Congress severely condemns this act of BD."
DK Congress interim president Ibrahim Kodijal said, "U R Anathamurthy is a great litterateur; he belongs to all classes in the society. The act by the Bajarang Dal is inhuman and is against the constitution. This act has betrayed the people of Dakshina Kannada. The government should invoke the gooda act against these miscreants."
An effigy representing Bajarang Dal was burnt on the occasion.
