Udupi, Aug 23: Poornaprajna College, Udupi, organized a UGC sponsored two day international seminar on ‘Health Related Physical Fitness and Wellness,’ at the Poornaprajna auditorium on Friday August 23.
Padma Bhushan awardee and former Vice Chancellor of Manipal University B M Hegde, in his address said, "Now-a-days everything has become science; without science there is no value for existence. Science is not an experiment, mathematics is not predicted, but simply is a curiosity."
He spoke about an animal which sleeps for six months a year, without food. He said that our present students are becoming robots since our education system does not allow students to think.
"A silver vessel kills germs; Ebola is treated with an anti-silver solution," he added. He called upon the students to start thinking and pursue the right education. "Education is not making a carrer; it is a manifestation of perception. At present, education system has changed. Though we have broad ways, our mindset is narrow," he said.
He opined, "'Paropakaram Idam Shareeram,'" which means use your body for helping others who are in need. Everyone has their own talent, but one should realize it. Health is an enthusiasm to work; enthusiasm promotes hardwork and leads to success."
He gave few tips to develop health, help others, preserving, care for others and donate (daana). He said that it was better to be fittest before illness.
G S Chandrashekar, honorable secretary PCMC, Udupi said, "Immunity is less in younger generation; if it is fit then all your applications will be implemented. Indian brains should be cultivating Indian culture not the western one."
Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji, in his inaugural speech, blessed the gathering. "Game and education should go simultaneously. There is a need to apply conformity instead of imitation. Indian principles are no different from Madhwa principles," he said.
Sadashiv Rao presided over the programme. Jagadeesh Shetty, vice principal welcomed the gathering, K Sathyanarayan delivered the vote of thanks while Harinakshi Shetty and Poornima Shetty compered.
