Udupi, Aug 22: A person, who came home after work and was taking bath by drawing water from the well located near his home, slipped into the well and drowned. The incident occurred near Dhoomavathy Daivasthana in Ambady, Katapadi on Thursday August 21.

The victim, identified as Sachchu alias Satyodaya (45), used to work for a wine shop in Katapadi. The fact that he had come back and was taking bath had not been noticed by anyone. His wife Shobha and eight-year-old daughter were on a visit to the house of his in-laws. His mother and aunt were at home, but they failed to notice the tragedy as they were inside the house.

The ladies got scared when Sachchu did not return home even at nightfall. Even after detailed search, he was not found, although they got information that he had returned home from work. The fire brigade was called thereafter to check whether he had accidentally drowned in the well. The fire personnel, who went into the well water, found the body of the man there. It is suspected that Sachchu, who was tall, would have slipped into the well while trying to release rope stuck in the water wheel, as the height of the protective wall around the well is very low.
