Panaji, Aug 22 (TOI) : Sriram Sena chief Pramod Mutalik on Thursday said that chief minister Manohar Parrikar was pressured by the drug mafia and the pub and prostitution lobbies to ban the sena in the state. He also accused the BJP of practicing 'pseudo Hindutva'.
"Parrikar should have banned the drug mafia, Nigerian mafia, pub and prostitution lobbies. Instead of that he has banned the Sriram Sena," Mutalik told TOI from Karnataka.
"Parrikar is afraid of me because I will stop the drug mafia, Nigerian mafia, pub culture and prostitution lobby which he is supporting clandestinely," Mutalik added.
On Wednesday, the north and south Goa district collectors issued orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, 1973, banning the entry of Mutalik, leaders of the Sriram Sena and any associates/members of the sena within their jurisdictions for a period of 60 days.
Mutalik is determined to start a branch of the Sriram Sena in Goa, which he said he will do after seeking permission from the court. He said that "a hundred Parrikars cannot stop" him from entering Goa and assured that the sena will work within the framework of the law.
Mutalik also said that BJP practices Hindu culture, and that for the last 40 year he has been working to protect Hindu culture in India.
There were demonstrations in around 30 different places in Karnataka protesting the ban, and Parrikar's effigy was burnt in a few places. Mutalik said that beginning Friday there would be agitations in other states protesting the Goa government's decision.
He said the sena exists in states governed by the Congress and other parties that have not banned it. "We have a presence in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh. We are not banned in those states despite there being no BJP government in them," he said.
The government fears that the sena will promote enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion and culture which will be prejudicial to maintaining harmony in the state.
