Mangalore-Kuwait flight service likely to resume from October: J R Lobo

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Aug 20: The Mangalore-Kuwait flight service is likely to resume operations from this October, MLA J R Lobo has said.

A delegation led by Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo and minister Roshan Baig had recently met union minister of state for civil aviation G M Siddeshwar and urged him to resume the flight service. The outcome of the meeting had reportedly been positive.

Speaking to daijiworld, J R Lobo said that he has unofficially received information from the civil aviation ministry that Mangalore-Kuwait flight would resume operation from this winter season, which starts from October.

The flight will reportedly be operational thrice a week and not on a daily basis.

Also, sources said that instead of a direct flight, Mangalore-Bahrain-Kuwait route is being planned.

The Mangalore-Kuwait direct flight operation was suspended in February this year reportedly due to ending of lease of Air India Express' aircraft and lack of passengers from Mangalore to Kuwait. Since then, there have been demands from various quarters, particularly from organizations based in Kuwait to resume the flight.

The official announcement about the resumption of the flight service can be expected in the next few days, sources said.

The issue became lack of passengers from Kuwait to Mangalore. Actually it was not like that. The quota of seats from Kuwait to Mangalore was only 60 and other 120 seats were to Khozikode and the Mangalore seats were always full when you try to buy the tickets online. When you start this time the quota system must not be there.

Hope the Kuwait – M'lore flight will resume in October as per Mr. Lobo's announcement and further hope the flight via Bahrain will be more profitable, so there won't be reason to cancel it during off season. In fact the flight was cancelled on fake grounds of incurring losses. The Mallus wanted a direct flight to Kozikode. The quota allotted to Kuwait – M'lore was always full. It is seats allotted to Kozhikode that always remained vacant. Now our leaders should ensure that this resumption of flight is not extended to Kochi or Trivandrum especially during peak season.

Mr Lobo, congratulations for championing the cause of twin districts Mangalore and Udupi.

We the people sometimes critic without reading fully, or comprehending fully, so do not get discouraged by the criticism on the Sept 8th issue. You had requested official holiday for twin districts only, so that all communities together can celebrate this harvest festival - giving due respect to mother earth and mother mary.

Kindly ignore our short shortsightedness and plan and negotiate with long sight for Mangalore and Udupi. We respect you, in a short span of time, you have touched many core issues bothering us. Political support we have none to give, but moral support and our prayers are for you and with you.
