Mangalore, Aug 20: Relating to the murder of Yatish, a resident of Ombattukere and auto rickshaw driver by profession, who was an activist of Hindu organizations on last Friday night at Thokkottu, the city crime branch police here succeeded in taking the main accused into custody on Monday August 19.
The arrested accused has been identified as Udayraj from Bagambila. He is being interrogated by the police personnel.
Yatish had been murdered after two groups clashed with each other over the issue of a song in the bar where they were having party on Independence Day. As per information gathered by the police, Uday had fled after stabbing Yatish to death.
On the night of Friday, two groups of youth seated at different tables were enjoying party on account of Independence Day. When Yatish's friend started singing to karaoke music, another group mocked at him which led to verbal friction between the two groups, which soon turned into fistfight.
It is said that the other group which was opposed to the group led by Yatish called Udayraj Shetty from Bagambila, who they knew was a sworn enemy of Yatish, over the phone. Udayraj Shetty, who was in the city at the time, rushed to the spot. By the time Uday reached the bar, Yatish had finished the party, come out of the bar, and was about to board his auto rickshaw to return home. Uday stabbed Yatish and fled from the scene, it is said, resulting in the death of the auto rickshaw driver.
Sources said that some more persons were taken for questioning. Further investigations are on.
