The locals have been complaining about recklessly driven heavy vehicles moving about on national highway in Uppinangady, Nekkilady, Mani, Perne etc, endangering lives of the people using these highways. The drivers of these vehicles care two hoots for road rules, capacity of vehicles, and need to give importance to safety, many said. Illegal sand mining activity too has contributed to the increase in the number of vehicles on the road, which account for several hit-and-run cases each month. A number of pedestrians and two-wheeler riders have lost their lives because of these vehicles which have no concern for fellow road users, they complain.
