Cheetah spotted near Mangalore airport

Mangalore, Aug 20 (Bangalore Mirror): A cheetah was reportedly spotted near the Mangalore International airport on Tuesday evening.

Airport director JT Radhakrishnan said, "Though there is no confirmation on it, a few staff members claimed that they spotted a cheetah outside the boundary wall of the airport, which is towards the old airport side.

Since it was late in the evening and visibility poor, we could not find anything. The runway operations were not affected and the flights are as per schedule."

It may be recalled that in 2012, runway inspectors spotted a bison at the Mangalore airport during their routine inspection. Though aircraft operations were not affected, the bison was found at the base strip of the valley.

In the 40s and 50s Cheetahs used to freely roam inside the shrubs of these region. They even used to attack the cattle in the night that was quite common then.
We have invaded their territories and they have nowhere to go.
Please don't hurt them if they are trapped or caught. Please seek the help of forest officials.

The animal spotted was not a chetah as reported, but a leopard. Cheetahs, once native to India, are now extinct. the last cheetah was killed around 60 years ago by a trigger happy maharaja.

If we take over forest and build buildings, where these poor animals will go, they cannot protest. Stop encroaching the forest area leave it in peace. God bless the animals that he has created and also bless mankind according to his act.
