Mangalore, Aug 19: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Jaipur was in the city to investigate the alleged links to terror organizations from the coastal belt, it is learnt.
It is said that a team of six persons had been camping for a few days with Ullal as center, and conducted investigations in places like Attavar, Suratkal, Pandeshwar, Mukkacheri and Ullal. The team has now gone back, sources said.
It is learnt that the ATS was in the city particularly to investigate possible links to the Jaipur blast in April this year. Ten suspects had been arrested for their role in the bomb blast at Jaipur.
The visit could also be viewed as significant after NIA arrested two terror suspects, Asadulla and Waqas who had reportedly rented a flat in the city, last year.
The ATS team was in the city to gather more information on the terrorist networks functioning from the district, sources said. Earlier, Yasin Bhatkal, co-founder of Indian Mujahideen had reportedly revealed that bombs used in Hyderabad bomb blasts were assembled in the district. It is reported that the team also collected significant information on the flow of funds that keeps the operation alive here.
However, police officials have declined to give any information on the visit by the ATS. A few days back, the ATS had also visited Bhatkal to gather information on two terror suspects in connection to Jaipur blasts.
