Mangalore/Bantwal, Aug 19: The 82nd annual Mosaru Kudike festivities related to Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations were organized at Kalladka under the aegis of Sri Rama Mandira in a grand fashion on Monday August 18. The deity was taken in a procession through the main road, accompanied by a variety of tableaux, musical bands, teams singing Bhajans, and young children dressed in Lord Krishna's attire.

'Krishna Mandira' created by Shilpa puppetry team from Kalladka, and the tableaux of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Trishul Friends, Om Shakti Friends, Manikanta Yuvashakti Team and Netaji Yuvaka Mandal attracted additional attention during this procession. The celebrations came to an end with religious meeting and a competition of plucking the prize money tied to the top end of a pole.
Thousands of devotees took part in the celebrations, which were attended among others by Dr Prabhakar Bhat, former MLAs, K Padmanabha Kottary and A Rukmaya Poojary, and others. A number of pots hung above were broken by teams of youth. During the procession, traffic on highway was disrupted for nearly two hours. Vehicles coming from the direction of Puttur were diverted on Dasakody-Shambhur-Panemangalore route.
At Moodbidri, Mosaru Kudike was celebrated with a touch of Yakshagana as is customary here. Diwakar Kulal, son of Monappa Kulal from Malali, who was known for donning the role of Lord Krishna in Yakshagana performances, again appeared in Yakshagana costumes as Lord Krishna on Monday. He moved from Nischitha Circle to Kalsanka, dancing to the beats of Chende in Yakshagana style and breaking hundreds of earthen pots lined up on both sides with his 'Chakrayudha' weapon. Speaking to reporters thereafter, Kulal said that his father had earlier been enacting the role of Krishna on Mosaru Kudike festivities, and that he had taken over mantle from his father since the last some years. 'This gives me unique experience. This practice of breaking pots has given rise to a unique tradition,' he felt.
Sri Krishna Friends Circle, which has been organizing variety cultural programmes every year on this occasion, presented 'Natyadhara' Bharat Natyam performance by B Balakrishna Manjeshwar troupe, and folklore dances. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Alva's Education Foundation chairman, Dr M Mohan Alva, former minister, K Amarnath Shetty, temple managing trustee, Guruprasad, and several other dignitaries participated.
In Mangalore, Mosaru Kudike festivities in the form of procession of Lord's idol, tableaux, puppetry, breaking of earthen pots hung high above, cultural programmes etc, were also held in various places in the city like Kadri, Attavar, Urwa, Thokkottu, and Asaigoly etc.
The 105th annual Mosaru Kudike Utsava was organized at the ground of Arasu Mundattaya Daivasthana in Attavar, accompanied by tableax, dance drama sequences etc. A procession which began from Kotichennaya Circle concluded at Mosaru Kudike Katte. Programmes like adventure on pole, musical extravaganza etc had been organized.
The festivities relating to Mosaru Kudike were held at the ground near Kadri temple, with the participating of thousands of people.
At the Mosaru Kudike festival organized at Urwa by Sri Krishna Janmotsava Samiti, Bhajans, and Yakshagana episode, 'Sri Krishna Charitamrita', were held. A procession taken out from Urwa ground moved to the stage set up at Urwa ground after covering Gandhinagar and Urwa Marigudi, after which Mahapuja was performed.
