Shimoga, Aug 18: Reportedly, a former soldier killed his wife on Sunday August 17, before fleeing from the scene. It is said that family dispute was the reason for this murder, which occurred at Shankaraghatta in Bhadravati taluk in the district.
Former soldier of Central Reserve Police Force, Maheshwar, has been accused of killing his wife, Dr Vatsala (33), who was a lecturer by profession. Vatsala, who holds Msc and PhD degrees, was employed in USA, while Maheshwar stayed in New Delhi. The couple has a house in
Shankaraghatta.
Vatsala had come to India on August 3 from USA with son, Shashank (8), to attend the postfuneral rituals connected with the death of an elder sister of Maheshwar. On Sunday August 17, the couple fought on some issue. After the arguments continued, Maheshwar, in a fit of rage, stabbed Vatsala's temple and neck with a knife before pushing her hard and knocking her to the ground. Vatsala, who fell on the ground, suffered deep injury to her head and died on the spot, the police said.
Maheshwar, before running away, left his son to the care of his younger brother living nearby. A case was registered in the rural police station.
Maheshwar fled in a motor bike at high speed to escape being caught, it is said. While driving his two wheeler recklessly, he suddenly came across a private bus moving towards Tarikere. The private bus driver lost control over his vehicle when trying to avoid hitting the motor bike and the bus fell on its side, inflicting minor injuries to several passengers and damaging the bus, it is gathered. The locals said that Maheshwar ran away, leaving his motor bike behind at the scene of the accident.
