Mumbai, Aug 18: Cooperage ground, Colaba witnessed the first ever maiden victory of St Lawrence High School, Kandivli (E) in the finals of MSSA under 16 Division I football tournament beating the Bombay Scottish (Mahim) by 2-1.
It was a massive victory for the boys as their long awaited aspirations to hold the prestigious trophy were realized. St Lawrence
came a long way qualifying from the Fourth Division to the Third and down to the Second and for the first time played the semifinals and finals in the first Division.
It was a team game expressed the coach Lachman, former Mahindra Midfielder. Nikhil Parulekar combined with Krish in the midfield fabulously scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game. The boys kept the vigiour going till the end which they had started with their very first match. The first half ended with 2-1 lead by the St Lawrence boys. In the second half St Lawrence boys kept the defence strong to emerge victorious. It is the first ever maiden victory in the first division.
In five group games, St Lawrence won four and drew one smashing Jamnabai for four and putting six past St Lawrence Borivli West. With his years of experience in the game, Bisht gave the students appropriate tips that led to the victory.
The winners of MSSA U/16 Football match of the First Division from St Lawrence High School, Kandivli (E) were felicitated for their excellent performance by the school.
Chairman, Dr A F Pinto and MD, Ryan International Group, Madam Grace Pinto personally congratulated the boys and awarded the winners with bouquets, certificates, appreciation letters and branded wrist watches. To add to their excitement, Managing Director of the group announced one year scholarship (free-ship) for the team players.
Principal Shashi Shekhar said, "It is the vision of Dr A F Pinto, Chairman, Ryan Group to see our children excelling at the district, state, national and international levels in sports. We see it being fulfilled. Managing Director Madam Grace Pinto has always motivated the school and our children ensuring that we have excellent environment to train our students. Our coaches are dedicated and this victory shows their dedication through meticulous and rigorous practice to come to the top. We thank our dear parents for their support in our endeavours."
