Bangalore under consideration for setting up AIIMS: Dr Harsh Vardhan

Bangalore, Aug 16: The Karnataka Government has suggested three places including Bangalore for setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The Union Health Ministry will select one place depending upon its merit and proximity to people, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said in Bangalore on Saturday.

Dr Harsh Vardhan, who is on his first visit to Bangalore after becoming the minister, said one of the conditions put by the union government was to provide at least 200 acres of land to establish AIIMS.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written suggesting three places, the minister said.

The health ministry would initiate the process soon.

Details will be examined and will be made known to the State government soon, he said.

''All the processes are under observation. We will strictly go by merit and select a place which is easily accessible to all people,” he said.

The minister said his ministry had also received a proposal to consider the state-of-the-hospital built in Gulbarga and managed by the Employees State Insurance for the AIIMS.

There had been a request to run it through the health ministry instead of by the ESI, he indicated.
Dr Harsh Vardhan said he was also in favour of a Common Entrance Test (CET) for the whole country in the interest of student community.

A petition was pending before the Supreme Court and the Union Government was persuing it.

Having single CET for the entire country would eliminate both direct and indirect ways of corruption and the menace of capitation fee, he said.

The government was optimistic that the apex court will give a favourable decision in the interest of poor and meritorious students.

On delays in admission process to professional courses, the minister felt there should be a definite guidelines so that everyone had to take this as a wake-up call well in advance.

Unfortunately, many medical colleges donot take it seriously. Need of the hour was to have more number of medical colleges but with quality.

The union health ministry was in the process of removing unnecessary bottlenecks which have come in the way of coming up good medical colleges across the country. This would address the problem of severe shortage of doctors, he added.

Bangalore must be ped out in favour of more centrally located cities that are convenient for people from the entire state, as well as cities that do not boast any such medical facilities uptil now.

Let us keep politics, lobbying etc. and work for the betterment of Karnataka.

    Jai Hind.

    Dear Sankar / RSRB,

Khadar has enough education to handle the health ministry, doenst matter if he is not an Doctor in profession with MBBS degree.

But… fate is Smriti ketta (Wrong Affidavits) Irani is HRD minister without an becholor degree also!! and that matters when she leading the PHD qualified people and education board.

It is not true that minister handles PhD holders directly. They too have the team to tackle the PhDs..

By the way, see my first comment. I told Khadar is performing good. I am of the opinion that as we grow up in the ladder, the qualification becomes secondary and the management becomes primary.

Good that Smriti agreed with all humiliation. That is why I told the matter is closed.
But What about Raul Vinci & Sonia? Still they did not confirm the truth & showing bold face?

Meantime, you did not feel sorry for raking up the issue of her education from day 1 of she became minister. That is not fair from your side.

    Dear RSRB,

Rahul and sonia are not ministers in any cabinet , please stop equating nautanki 6 day degree of HRD Minister who filed false affidavit and moreover she lost the election too to none other than rahul . Education is important to every citizen and to be headed by an uneducated nautanki brings the whole equation down to ZERO

If you go thorugh the constitution, there was no need to have education to become minister. I do not understand why you are worried?

Qualification of central health minister is MBBS. What about state health minister?

This question is only for those who felt central HRD minister's qualification is not enough.

By the way, Minister Khadar Bhai is the best among Sidhdhu's cabinet. By his work, he proves MBBS is not required to serve the people as Health Minister. Hope those who have "qualification problem" will learn from him.

HRD minister never mentioned that she has Yale university certificate in election affidavit. Question of Yale university came recently but you guys were insulting her from day 1.

When press raked up this issue again recently (as if there is no burning issues in the country) she told by mistake "degree" instead of "certificate". But promptly clarified next day. I think matter closed here.

Now the matter still open is Sonia's & Raul Vinci's education. So far no clarification came in spite of mentioning in the Affidavit by them...

It is only because of the descent upbringing and cultured behaviour of BJP supporters that the qualifications of Mr. Khadar is not questioned. We know that his caliber is far high to be certified by his qualifications. On the same grounds Mrs. Irani was appointed as the HRD minister.

Jossey should seriously gather all his intelligence and try to understand this fact.

I request Harshwardhan to look into it very seriously! Bangalore has enough med colleges and med hospitals! let this AIIMS help poors! Besides bangalore has IISC, IIM, HAL,NAL,ADA,BHEL,BEML and all IT setup... even AIIMS if u allot there, it wld only invite influx of further north indians and will burden the city! ...

Move it to Dharwad region, as it is equidistant from all distrcits of state and specially will help poor people from Hyderabad karnataka region, belgaum, gadag, koppal, uttara kannada, shimoga!! primary health and education should improve in our state!
