Karkala: Hit by headmaster 18 years ago, Stephen was raring to settle scores

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Aug 16: Felix Stephen Noronha (45) from Kodyadka in the taluk, who sent the police department of the district into a tizzy by sending fax to Karnataka chief minister over the alleged sexual harassment of girl students by Sooda high school headmaster, was driven by anger that was seething inside him since the last 18 years, the police learnt.

Felix used to stay at Shirva in the past. About 18 years back, Rithesh Shetty, teacher, had driven his car through the courtyard of Felix's mother's house. Felix had objected to this act, at which Rithesh, who got angry, reportedly hit him with his hands. This act gave rise to a deep-rooted anger in the mind of the young man.

Even after he became a chartered accountant over the course of time and worked in a foreign country and then set up his house in Kodyadka, Felix continued to be haunted by memories of his age-old insult.

The innate desire to seek vengeance surfaced recently, after Felix, who was on a visit home last month, read news about sexual crimes, and strict action being initiated by the government under reinforced act against sexual offenders, through publications and visual media. He planned to satiate his desire to take revenge against Sooda high school headmaster, Rithesh Shetty. He created a fake email ID in the name of Shibani and Prem, and sent several emails and fax to the office of the state chief minister, Supreme Court, and some other high-ranking officials of the government, drawing their attention to the alleged sexual harassment meted out by Rithesh Shetty to girl students and lady teachers of his school. These emails were sent through a cyber centre in Moodbidri, and a laptop of his relative living in Shirva, the police came to know.

After the office of the chief minister contacted the district police and sought a detailed report on this case, the matter gained the attention of the rural police station here. A case was registered on August 5, and questioning of Rithesh Shetty, students of the high school, and others, revealed that false complaints had been hoisted against headmaster by unscrupulous persons. With the help of cyber crime branch, Bangalore, the police zeroed in on the accused. Stephen was arrested from Moodbidri on Thursday August 14, and produced in court on Friday.

Felix Stephen Noronha has been remanded to judicial custody till August 28.

Some of the School teachers now a days have side business like Stone Quarry, Wood, Bar, Building Construction...what not...

They use their "teachers tag" when it suits them...

Teachers job now a days is just another profession like Police, actors, pimp, Quarry owners, timber merchants, building Contractors ...what not...

Some of these so called teachers have nexus with local "politicians" that's why Police refuse to register a case against them...

This Stephen must have administered same medicine to this "so called teacher"...than using this Anonymous letter writing...

I agree with you Fatima.. Some scars donot erase.
My PT master slapped me as I did not write names of any of my friends who were talking in the class. I was first rank student and made class monitor by the PT sir. He slapped me in front of entire class. Till today I have not forgotten that.
One Drawing master insulted me so much as I added my fathers surname in my name(my name was without surname). He sarcastically said I want to take credit of my fathers doing.
One principal insulted me so much, made me cry in front of every lecturer one day. My "crime" I banged the flap door.(those doors which exited in old times) I hadnt realised that door had banged. He abused me like hell. And he wrote BAD CONDUCT in my letter in red ink. I would have ended my life that day... That thought did pass my mind as I was extremely sensitive and also being a first rank student..
What I am telling is there are very good teachers but there are VERY VERY VERY BAD TEACHERS too..

I can imagine how u feel Vinod, after so many insults,i think u must be a kid then as I also was a kid when insulted in d presence of the whole class, even cudnt confront her until I completed my high school, but once I joined college I always thought of going back and making her realise her mistake and tell her abt my feelings but I never had a chance, but until today I am carrying this bitter memory. In this particular case I feel the headmaster must be humble at least now ,go and hug him in jail, withdraw the case and release him this will be a great wonder and Felix's wounds will be healed, and God will be pleased with Rithesh. Its a bit difficult but Ritesh if u r reading this pls forgive him ,u see all will be fine.

It is sad that a young qualified person should nurture anger and grudge against a teacher on a petty matter and seek revenge.

Sending anonymous letters is considered cowardly and one should not have recourse to this method to settle score with any one.

Not knowing the details of the case we should not pass a judgement on any one. Let law therefore take its own course.

It is not normal after so many years to think of taking grudge of a slap from headmaster.Everybody is in life here and there Comes across such incidents .but Forget them unless it is like murder or private life .If we all start taking gruge this way ,where is the end and senseless.Instead he could have gone to him and either slap him or make him ask excuse for his slap.but this is like a psychological effect and quite wrong. Now he has to say sorry infront of all .

Its very easy for all of us to comment on Felix's mistake, yes he has committed it but why don't people try to understand what he was going through all these years, put yourself in this situation and feel it for a sec if someone had slapped u, no human being can tolerate injustice, now its Ritesh turn, he must realise his past mistake and withdraw the case against Felix and ask pardon from him. I have gone through the same ordeal, when my father expired and I was absent for a day and then returned to d class the teacher passed very nasty comments on my father saying he must be a drunkard, which I haven't forgotten yet,i always wish I meet her again to remind her mistake.

We have so many teachers around who are just cruel and they are not fit to be teachers. Why did teacher beat Steven 18 years back? Was he right in doing so? I am not supporting Steven. He too did grave mistake. But at the same time, this teacher also at fault and he too should be punished.

what revenge? he should have grown a pair and be a man enough to openly accuse and use his name in complaint, rather than shibani/prem!

character assassination is unpardonable... and u must not count it as nice way of revenege! even if a girl accuses, falsely of someone raping her, its GRAVE CRIME!! there are enough fights normal people have.. in a fit of rage, we may hit each other also! but accusing somebody of rapist etc is very wrong... when sukanya devi issue happened we sympathised with Rahul gandhi too!! political revenge it cld be, but its very wrong!! same is true with Nihal chand or Halappa or sunil parashar!! yes, thety r all wrong, but the women in this episode, knew what they are getting into!! all consesual sex and when things go horribly wrong between them, they accuse of rape? its insulting those women went thru nonsensical ordeal of rape! though the women need justice, from this cheating!!...

Steevan, has a degree and education , but he was not man enough and lacked common sense here!! probably as a person of faith, he has biggest sin of his life!!!

Reminds of the famous teaching of The Buddha:

    Buddhaghosa, in discussing anger said,
“By doing this you are like a man who wants to hit another and picks up a burning ember or excrement in his hand and so first burns himself or makes himself stink.”

Though Mangalore is known for 100 % literacy the quality of education in our schools was not the best. It was not child centered. It was teacher centered. They gave us basics of 3Rs read write and arithmetic and lots of inferiority. It came from corporal punishment or oral abuse. Any punishment the child takes to heart and thinks that she or he is bad. Child does not develop faculties below 12 years how to process any punishment, therefore develops inferiority. Any punishment amounts to child abuse and few abused surly end up as antisocial elements or child abusers. Thank God for law that has been recently passed by Menaka Gandhi against corporal punishment by anybody of a child. Appreciation, affection, allowing (freedom), acceptance and approval these are five pillars on which a child should be allowed to build his or her personality. In our society the child rights are often violated mostly because of adult ignorance and ego. See Amir Khan’s Movie " Tare Jamin Par". Freely available on You Tube, it is a must watch for every good intending parent and teacher.

If you carry a feeling of anger, vengeance, retaliation for someone in your heart, you will not prosper in your life instead you will loose your peace of mind and it leads you to nowhere but self destruction. The best thing Stephen could have done is to forgive and forget Mr.Shetty, as petty incidents like this are common. Mr.Stephen thought of teaching a lesson to Shetty for the insults he suffered but in the process inflicted more insults on himself.

Hold grudge for 15 years? Very bad for health. Either take action for wrong done immediately or forgive and forget the incident and leave it to God, but Stephen shouldn't have falsely implicated Rithesh!
Case is some what similar to Raymond's College in Vamanjoor, A PUC student, with the help of So called "Moral Police" has accused that her Lecturer Harish Acharya, of sexually harassing her.
College Mgmt and many students supported the Lecturer.
