Udupi, Aug 12: P Rajendra Prasad, who took charge as superintendent of police (SP) of Udupi district on Monday August 11, said that his top priority would be to maintain peace and harmony in the district and make the police department more people-friendly.
Addressing his first press conference after assuming his new charge, the SP said, "There is a need to change the prejudice against police department and the general perception that people have about police. Media must work as a bridge and not as a wall between the police and the public.
"Khaki (police uniform) represents sacrifice and service," he added.
"I will stress more on empathy than sympathy. I will review the rowdy sheeter list and keep an eye on potential rowdies," he said.
He also said that he would revive the Hoysala patrol teams in Udupi and added that he would also give chance to those who are in criminal lists, both locals and non-locals who have served their sentences, to come to the mainstream of society.
"Any person moving about in a suspicious manner will be arrested. We will create awareness among people about traffic and transport rules," he added.
He also proposed to revive the golden hour concept in dealing with accidents or emergencies, where victims are given medical attention within an hour by specialized teams.
"My ultimate aim is make the best and maximum utilization of the available human resources," he said.
He further said that he would conduct frequent workshops and training programmes on IPC and CRP for the benefit of the police personnel. He urged media and the public to cooperate with the police and not show any tolerance to illegal or immoral activities.
Rajendra Prasad had earlier served as SP of Chamarajnagar, Mysore for a period of two years. He has also rendered his service in the Mysore traffic police department. He served as DySP of Udupi in 2002 and also rendered his service in Hejamadi and Kundapur taluk.
