Mangalore, Aug 13: 'All the Rajini fans...Don't miss the chance...' goes the popular 'Lungi Dance' song from the movie Chennai Express. Well, this certainly was one chance fans of legendary star Rajinikanth did not want to miss.
Tamil films may not be that popular in Mangalore, but when the Thailava of south Indian film industry arrived in the city on Wednesday August 13 after 22 long years, his fans went berserk.
Rajinikanth landed at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday en route Shimoga where he would be shooting for the movie 'Linga' for the next 21 days.
Humble and simple as ever, Rajinikanth spent over an hour at the airport mingling with airport staff, officials and fans, graciously giving autographs and posing for photos with a smile.
Speaking to the media in Kannada, he said he was on his way to Shimoga to shoot for the movie 'Linga', which may be released in December this year.
He also hinted at a possible plunge into politics in future and said it was god's wish that he becomes the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. He recalled an instance when there had been traffic jam when he was crossing the road, and CM Jayalalithaa too got stuck in the traffic. The police personnel had to then ask him to get into car to clear the jam.
He also said that his health was fine and he felt glad to come to Mangalore after a gap of over two decades.
As his arrival was already known due to the shooting schedule, elaborate arrangements were made at the airport and the officials and police officers received him.
People gathered in hundreds to catch a glimpse of the mega star. Rajinikanth was accompanied by Sandalwood producer and actor Rockline Venkatesh and others.
Meanwhile, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha too was spotted at the airport. She was on her first visit to the city to shoot for a movie, sources said. However, her arrival was a surprise and she did not interact with the media.
