Puttur, Aug 12: Kodymbady Vishwanath Shetty, who was arrested in connection with the murder of his friend, Vishwanath Rai after 13 years, will now be booked for escaping arrest in respect of a standing court warrant. A fresh case relating to this will soon be filed in Uppinangady police station under section 173 (8) of Indian Penal Code.
Shetty, who was produced in the presence of fifth additional district sessions judge at his residence in Puttur on Monday August 11 evening, was remanded to 15 days judicial custody. District Superintendent of Police, Dr Sharanappa S D, has already said that the court would be approached to seek Shetty's police custody soon. His custody will be crucial for gathering further evidence like recovery of the weapon from the spot where Shetty had discarded it after Rai's murder and other supportive evidence.
It is learnt that after Shetty went missing, the court, during the hearing of the chargesheet, had ordered pasting of posters with a photograph and other details of Shetty at prominent places, seeking information about him from the public. However, no response was received to this initiative. Thereafter, an arrest warrant having no date of limitation was issued for his arrest.
Subhas Gowda, an employee of the finance firm in which Rai and Shetty were partners, was present during the murder. Gowda, who has been the complainant relating to the murder, has been given the status of an approver.
