Karkala, Aug 11: The sexual harassment case registered against Ritesh Kumar Shetty, headmaster of Sooda government high school near here has been dropped. A case had been registered in the rural police station here against this headmaster, on the basis of allegations that since the last about six months, he had been sexually harassing girl students of the high school.
The police, during their preliminary investigation, came to the conclusion that it was a fake complaint. The police said that during their questioning, none of the girl students of the high school came out with complaint of sexual harassment against Shetty.
It is learnt that an anonymous complaint had been made in this regard to the state chief minister through fax by people who remained unidentified. The names 'Shibani' and 'Prem' mentioned in the complaint were found to be fake. On the basis of this fax, the CM had asked the superintendent of police to look into the matter and in turn, the local police detained the headmaster and registered a case.
It may be recalled that various organizations including Belman Buntara Sangha had held a protest on August 7, alleging that unscrupulous elements had been trying to defame the teacher concerned through a fake complaint. They had also demanded for withdrawal of the case, failing which, the concerned had warned of intensifying the agitation in the coming days.
