Karkala: Sexual harassment case against Sooda headmaster withdrawn

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Aug 11: The sexual harassment case registered against Ritesh Kumar Shetty, headmaster of Sooda government high school near here has been dropped. A case had been registered in the rural police station here against this headmaster, on the basis of allegations that since the last about six months, he had been sexually harassing girl students of the high school.

The police, during their preliminary investigation, came to the conclusion that it was a fake complaint. The police said that during their questioning, none of the girl students of the high school came out with complaint of sexual harassment against Shetty.

It is learnt that an anonymous complaint had been made in this regard to the state chief minister through fax by people who remained unidentified. The names 'Shibani' and 'Prem' mentioned in the complaint were found to be fake. On the basis of this fax, the CM had asked the superintendent of police to look into the matter and in turn, the local police detained the headmaster and registered a case.

It may be recalled that various organizations including Belman Buntara Sangha had held a protest on August 7, alleging that unscrupulous elements had been trying to defame the teacher concerned through a fake complaint. They had also demanded for withdrawal of the case, failing which, the concerned had warned of intensifying the agitation in the coming days.

Fax is ultimate to reach the culprit or defendant. Whoever sent the petition or false allegation using a fax left behind the biggest evidence who are they. Justice should prevail

    Dear All,

As I had written earlier there are no such students as named in the complaint. This is a conspiracy against Mr. Shetty and they have failed badly. So stop listening to rumours. Thank you to all those who have supported Mr. Shetty during this tough time.

Now that the Head master's name is cleared, he should take up the matter and tell the police to investigate and catch the culprits, so that fake complaints in future will stop. In the meantime, the local people should call a meeting and honour this Head master, and an apology should come in the meeting from the police. I am sure, the Head master will continue to serve the students as before.

An anonymous complaint even when forwarded by the chief minister's office does not constitute an FIR. Arresting the head master without an FIR was unlawful. The police officer who ordered the arrest must be punished.

    Why he should?
Anonymous letter received by him was forwarded to the respective department. If the department has failed to perform its duty then what is his fault?

    Mr. Fernandes,
    You are ignorant of facts.
CM himself instructed the authorities to arrest the Headmaster 'immediately'. Probably he would have thought all the Shettys have voted for BJP this time!
