Riyadh, Aug 9 (IANS): The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Saturday called for a united stand to show solidarity with the Palestinians against the Israeli atrocities.
In a GCC statement during a forum in Morocco, Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani demanded a united stand to put an end to the Israeli crimes against civilians in the Gaza Strip, MENA news agency reported.
Al Zayani stressed the importance to hold perpetrators of such crimes accountable by the international justice system.
The GCC is a political and economic alliance of six Middle Eastern countries -- Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
The Israeli offensive that began July 8 in the restive enclave has killed over 1,900 Palestinians and left over 9,500 wounded, including around 2,800 children.
The Israeli strikes destroyed around 65,000 houses, displacing over half a million people in a near month-long operation in the Hamas-ruled enclave.
The GCC was established in Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh in 1981.
