Mangalore, Aug 7: In a horrific incident, a two-year-old boy was bitten by street dogs at Kudroli here on Thursday August 7.

The boy, identified as Mohammed Imad, is the son of Umar Imtiaz and Badrunnisa Banu, residents of Kudroli.

It is said that while the family was having breakfast, the boy was playing outside the gate. The family heard barking of dogs and the screams of the child, and rushed out. They saw Imad being mauled by four or five dogs and quickly rescued him.

The boy was rushed to Yenepoya hospital and then to KMC hospital at Attavar. His condition is said to be serious.

Speaking to daijiworld, the uncle of the injured boy said that a week ago, another child was attacked by the dogs in the same area. He further said that despite being aware of the incident, the local corporator has not visited the family.

Corporator of the area Azeez Kudroli said that he has informed the MCC mayor and the health department, and also the animal welfare department about the incident. On why he did not visit the family of the boy, he said he was out of station and would do so after he returns.

It is very sad. In Mangalore stray dogs menace is increasing day by day. I think media can take up this issue at national level and solve this problem. My opinion is all stray dogs to be sterilized to reduce their production so as that the children can be saved. I found more stray dogs in mangalore, NMPT, Surathkal, Kavoor areas.

One leading (always misleading) local newspaper has gone to the extent of saying that there are a lot of stray dogs in that area because there is a slaughterhouse nearby.. Giving a religious/political color??!!! By that logic, there are slaughterhouses all over Mangalore since numerous stray dogs can be found everywhere..!!!!

D easiest thing to do is blame others. Animal activists, the government n others. You hav zero knowledge on what so ever is happening in Mangalore. Do u realize this planet does not belong just to us, the "human beings", buy to hundreds of other creatures. All this is happening because of us, the selfish humans who think only of ourselves. If incidents lik this happen, take a moment n think how could you hav have helped instead of blaming. Every alternate day, more than 10 stray dogs are sterilized here. Everyday new born puppies are abandoned, and everyday they are rescued. Now if there is anyone you want to blame, blame these irresponsible people who abandon puppies on streets. N these are "facts" not something i cooked out of thin air. Pray for this child's recovery, instead of al this.

hello, Mr. Rudolf, Mumbai. you will realise if your dear ones attacked by same steet dogs. then you may not think all these whether to eliminate or kill... you yourself may go to extreme of eliminating those. Now it's others kid, so you are worried reading all those recommendations. Yes, we do respect dogs and got dogs at home. but safeguarding them at the cost of these small kids , no. can not. I know a lot of animal welfare officers speak a lot. but they will not be there when such incident happens nor when all these street animals die with out proper food and all. they just raise their voice if any anti steps taken against these steet animals. why can't they pick all these street animals and take care of those. they will not do that. So, I stand supporting to the recommendations to eliminate STREET DOGS. Let's wake up before we loose many more such kids for these dogs.

It is sad hat this poor child had to go through this ordeal. Fortunately he parents heard the child's cry and rescued the baby from the fangs of the canine.

Now - a Very important question. How to control the menace of the stray dogs. It is expedient that the Corporation authorities find a solution to the important knowing problem for the sake of the children and adults alike.

    Dear kusuma,
The sterilization of stray animals is taking place in mangalore for quite a while now. If dog owners become more responsible and stop abandoning their pet's new born puppies on streets and instead sterilize their pet dogs, and if citizens like us become more responsible and take this up as a social responsibility, all should go well very soon.
I pray for the speedy recovery of this innocent boy and never may such an incident reoccur

Sad incident, pray the child recovers fast!!

As viewed by many, these strays thrive and multiply thanks to the waste food, raw meat wastage, etc. dumped and available in plenty so most of them are well nourished and look very ferocious!!

Moreover, when they move in packs their wolf instincts (hunting) comes to fore and they attack anyone mercilessly especially in lonely places and in darkness!! Many readers have rightly said that the presence of abattoirs in the surroundings are the primary reason of these dogs getting so wild and attacking humans!!

There have been so many instances of even very longtime pet dogs at homes having suddenly turned wild and killed small children in many places around the world!!

Dogs are the most loving creatures man could ever find, its love is unconditional and just giving emotional comments like "kill them" etc. I feel is very inhuman and inappropriate because of stray incidents like these!! Dogs are anytime better than so many humans doing so much of atrocities or even mercilessly killing fellow human beings for even various!! Jai Hind!!

Very sad incident, may the little boy recover soon. I have also come across some crazy stray dogs. When i used to go to college in bicycle the dog would wait on the road and try to chase me. The only option i had is either run my bicycle faster than him by escaping the attack (which was risky) or to stop the bicycle and shoo him. But if i stopped and shooed him then he would come chasing again as soon as i got into the bicycle. I had very tough time everyday escaping from the dog.

These street dogs are experts in stealing only leather shoes and sandals. These dogs never touch rubber shoes and sandals.
If by mistake if you keep your compound gate open during night and leave your costly shoes outside the house then next morning you will see those shoes on the road badly chewed or torn into pieces.

Many outstation Buses reach Mangalore in the early morning between 4 and 5 am. At that time if anyone dares to walk to his nearby home then surely he will be chased by atleast 20-25 street dogs.
Wherever there is abattoir (Kasai Khana) dogs of that area become addicted to eating mutton and become ferocious. There is a big abattoir in Kudroli hence there dogs are ferocious.

By chewing RAW flesh and skin & bones the street dogs automatically become ferocious and this trait among dogs is noticed all over the world. In Bangalore dogs living around big meat shops have even killed small children especially in the early morning as they are famished during night.

It is because of these despicable characters and pseudo intellectuals from this shitty organization called PETA this is happening. All these rich memsahibs a saabjis travel in cars, live in secured compounds and have servants to walk their dogs so that they crap on footpaths where the common man walks. Bloody morons if they love dogs so much they should take all street dogs to their home and keep them. In the nineties i remember MCC people capturing strays and taking them away in lorries. Mangalore never had stray dog menace then. Its after these "Menaka Gandhi" types came and started protesting the number of stray dog bites and cases of rabies have increased. Stupid people do not realize that this is India. naramanig dumbu sarrri manthudu tuka bokka undu pura PETA nonsense. All shallow people seeking publicity and meeting their like. I remember a small sweet kid in Vamanjoor succumbing to rabies a few years back after these stupid PETA people got MCC to stop killing strays. Saavudakulege Naayin patthudu nasbandi mathudu budiduge.... Ancha itthunda naayi patthudu korodu thuka.... Bloody morons. I hope and pray this child will get well soon. Poor thing had to bear the brunt of stupidity of these PETA idiots.

This is a very serious issue in the City, there were similar case earlier too, and I have witnessed one such case in my neighborhood where a 5 year old boy was bitten by 5-6 dogs and was in serious condition. These Stray Dogs are even a big problem for elderly people during their early morning walks.
Due to certain Animal rights groups the stray are not eliminated these days. I kindly ask the responsible people to take up this issue seriously.
