Bangalore, Aug 7: Four suspected terrorists, who were reportedly lying low in Karnataka after killing Hindu leaders in Tamil Nadu, were arrested from the city on Wednesday August 6 in a joint operation launched by the policemen of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
It is said that the arrested men are members of banned fundamentalist organization, Al Umma. The foursome, identified as Shameen, Sadiq, Shamiulla and Nawaaz, were taken into custody from Vivek Nagar here on Wednesday by Tamil Nadu police. They had gone into hiding in the city after murdering Suresh Kumar, leader of a pro-Hindu organization functioning in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu.
Reacting to the incident, city police commissioner, M N Reddy, confirmed that four suspected members of Al Umma organization have been arrested relating to the murder of pro-Hindu leader, Suresh Kumar in Tamil Nadu. The commissioner said during the questioning, the state police found that they had not played any role in the bomb blast cases in the city. He said the custody of the accused, presently with Tamil Nadu police, will be sought if the need for interrogating them in connection with bomb blast cases is felt later.
The said miscreants had killed K P S Suresh Kumar, Vellore district unit secretary of Hindu Munnani near Ambattur bus stand on July last by using lethal weapons, it is learnt.
The Bangalore police also arrested Parbatji Thakur from Bhildi village in Banaskanta district in Gujarat, who has been accused of sending an e-mail to Kempegowda International Airport Ltd on July 21, threatening to blast the airport.
The said e-mail was purported to have been sent in the name of Indian Mujahideen and Lashkar-E-Toiba organizations. The police, using the mobile phone Internet protocol technology, succeeded in establishing the identity of the sender of the e-mail, who is 19-year-old. Assistant commissioner of police, Alok Kumar, said that Thakur was arrested with the assistance of local police, and that he has been brought to the city for further questioning.
The complaint received by the International Airport police station in this connection had been referred to cyber crime police cell. The policemen of this cell, who found that the said e-mail was geberated frin a cell phone, discovered that the sim card was issued at Gujarat, and standing in the name of a farmer. The policemen, during further investigation, found the sim card, procured by furnishing identity proof standing in the name of the above farmer, in the cell phone of Parbatji Thakur.
