Mangalore, Aug 7: Military deputy director general, Brig A Arun, RSM, SM, visited the army recruitment rally that is under way here on Wednesday and gathered information from recruitment officials. The rally will be on for a week. Arun also held consultations with representatives of the district administration and Alva's group of institutions.

Speaking to news persons later, he praised both Dakshina Kannada district administration and Alva's group for making superlative arrangements for the rally. Noting that youth from the state have shown lot of enthusiasm to join the army, he said this response has given rise to high expectations.

Mangalore division army recruitment director, Vishwanath, nodal officer and tahsildar, Manikyaraj, and chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr Mohan Alva, as well as trustee, Vivek Alva, were present.

Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, visited the ongoing army recruitment rally here on Wednesday, and observed the proceedings. He got information about different phases of the recruitment rally from the army officials, and spoke to the candidates who took part in the race. Speaking to reporters thereafter, he felt that this rally has provided a golden opportunity for the youth from the region to serve the army, which offers best salary and other facilities among government jobs, besides providing an opportunity to serve the country. He asked youth from the district to make use of this opportunity to the fullest, and noted that Alva's group has made elaborate arrangements for the recruitment rally.

Along with tahsildar, Manikyaraj, Moodbidri tahsildar, Muhammed Issac, revenue inspector, Somashekhar Mayya, block education officer, Govind Madiwala, Alva's Education Foundation representatives, Dr Mohan Alva and Vivek Alva, were present during his visit.

Candidate caught stealing

A candidate who had come here to take part in the army recruitment rally, had stolen a cell phone from a studio. A number of candidates had visited the said studio located near the bus stand here, as they were required to attach photographs and other records to their applications. The youth, it turns out, took away the cell phone found inside the makeup room of the studio on Monday August 4, taking advantage of the fact that no one else was present in the room during his visit to the studio in the company of four friends.

The studio owner had filed a complaint with the local police relating to the incident. On Wednesday, the policemen, during routine verification, found that a person named Sachin D'Souza was wearing the same T-shirt in which he had visited the studio. When questioned, Sachin confessed to his crime and gave the cell phone back. It was returned to the studio owner.

Sachin was taken into custody for questioning. It transpires that he hails from Chikmagalur.

Almost all Candidates at Moodabidri were from other districts. Very few boys from Coastal districts prefer to join Army or Navy. So, such Army recruitment drive should be held in such districts where people are more interested in taking up Army Jobs. In our neighboring Kodagu dist large number of boys even from rich family prefer to join Army. My brother is in Air Force and he has come across very few Mangaloreans in Airforce, even though mother Nature has given the Mangaloreans the best physique among south Indians which is more suitable for Army/Navy/Airforce.
But Youths from DK-Udupi prefer to join Underworld or Moral Police brigades.

Mr. Shenava, Moral police do a voluntary job of protecting and retaining moral values in the society as good as the job done by Jawans of the army.

Mr.Shanker, What do you mean by moral policing?..what moral values do they know? what respect do they have to elders of the society ? Please do not compare moral policing goons to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army.Indian Army fights the enemy both inside the country as well at the borders. They serve the country at the most severe atmospheres where these moral policing goons will never think of staying for even a hour. The Army javans serve at freezing temps at Siachen glacier.Scorching hot temp at the Thar and Ladakh deserts and in-penetrable jungles of North East and North India braving the fierce rains. Please think well before you comment.
