Bangalore, Aug 6: Karnataka Law Commission Chairman S R Nayak has lambasted the Siddaramaiah regime for its failure to provide sufficient space for the commission’s office and set up library and other facilities.
Justice Nayak, who assumed office on June 27, told reporters in Bangalore on Wednesday that the State Government has also not appointed a member and a member-secretary.
He said full-fledged commission would take up tasks assigned to it by the Government.
Justice Nayak said he has written to the State Government to fill the posts immediately to enable the commission to discharge its duties.
The State Government has referred the anti-superstitious bill and the amendment bill to the Karnataka Marriages (Registration and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1976, to the commission for a detailed study.
The draft law - The Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill, 2013 - proposes death sentence for human sacrifice in the name of black magic.
The bill seeks to penalise broadcast, propagation or promotion in any manner of superstitious practices.
The commission has a five-year term and has given Rs 1.60 crore fund for a year.
