Udupi, Aug 4: Six persons lost their lives in the rain-ravaged district during the last two days. The district had witnessed incessant rains in Siddapur and Kollur areas of Kundapur taluk, while other parts of the district received normal rains with wide gaps in between, on Sunday August 3.
Two fishermen from Padutonse village went missing at Malpe after two trawler boats that had ventured into the sea for fishing activities capsized at around 11.30 am on Sunday. The tragedy occurred near Kutpady Padukare, and four other fishermen, who were in these boats, were rescued.

The missing fishermen are Naveen Salian (34) from Kody Bengre and Tukaram Suvarna (55) from Padutonse Bengre. Dinesh Suvarna, Anand Kundar, Sadhu Salian and Uday Marakala, who survived the accident, are safe.
Naveen, who was adept at swimming, had been into fishing since the lat 15 years. He had married on May 21 this year. Tukaram Suvarna was very poor, and his family lived in a small thatched house that would have collapsed anytime, before shifting its base to a place near Doopadakatte Brahmavar to live in the land owned by some relatives. The family, which has two grown-up daughters, entirely depended on Tukaram for everything.
Both the above boats had left Malpe port on Sunday morning with three fishermen each. Reportedly, when they were fishing near Kutpady Padukare, both the boats turned turtle due to violent waves which rocked them. Fishermen from some other boats rushed to their rescue, and both the boats suffered heavy damages.
The body of Paddu alias Padmavati (62) from Mullimane, who had gone missing after unexpectedly falling into river on July 30, was found by the banks of the sea at Konakani near Kirimanjeshwar in Kundapur taluk. The report filed in this connection said that the woman might have slipped either while collecting coconuts floating in river water or walking by the riverside.
Kuppayya Kharvi (56) from Janata Colony Goyadimane in Uppunda village in Kundapur taluk fell into the river and died while fishing on Sunday August 3 morning in Sumanavati rivulet. The complaint filed with the police said that during fishing, his fishnet got entangled in his feet, and he drowned in river as a result.
Vittal Shetty (55) from Mala village in Karkala taluk slipped while crossing a foot bridge across a rivulet located at Soorante on the night of Thursday August 1. Shetty was a daily wage worker, and the report in this connection was filed in Karkala rural police station.
A Bangalore-based youth on a visit to Kaup beach died after being swept away by the surging waves of the sea. Shivaraj Aras (23) was a member of a group of four friends from Bangalore, who had come to the beach. It is said that the friends tried to play in sea water, although the locals advised them against undertaking this adventure. Aras was an interior designer at Bangalore, it is learnt.
Kasargod: During the last four days, six persons from Kasargod district died, several suffered injuries, and property worth about three crore rupees was destroyed due to rain.
The body of Sharada (55), wife of Kunhiraman from Pandikanda was found from the river on Sunday morning. The body of C V Rajendran (40), from Ravaneshwara Kottalangad, who had gone missing, was also found on Sunday.
Efforts to find out the fate of Kundakere Unnikrishnan (25) from Ambalattara Pachikkana, who had been swept away by strong currents, is continuing. Kunhikannan (65), a BJP activist from Perur died after coming into contact with live wire that had fallen across road due to rain.
Crashed houses and fallen trees also inflicted injuries and losses to many.
