Kasargod, Jul 31: A team led by deputy superintendent of police (DySP) here, T P Ranjith, succeeded in arresting a man and his accomplice, who are facing over 25 cases which include murder attempt and posing of death threats, on Wednesday July 30.

The arrested persons have been identified as Hameed alias Gujari Hameed (25), a native of Attegoly in Uppala Paivalike, and Mohammed Siddique (32) from Bangalore.

Hameed has been charged with attempting to murder Manjeshwar station sub-inspector of police, P Pramod, about a month back at Paivalike. As many as 19 cases of murder attempts and posing of threats in Manjeshwar police station limits, two in Kumble, one at Bekal, and one in Karnataka, stand registered against him. The police said three among these cases pertain to murder attempts.

The police confiscated an Innova car that had been stolen from Malappuram from his possession. It is gathered that the accused also was involved with illegal transportation of sand, liquor, and other restricted goods into Kerala from other states.

Some of the cases he faces include forceful collection of hafta (protection money), robbing of passengers by intercepting vehicles, etc. The police said that a gang led by Hameed had created an environment of tension and fear in Uppala area. Robbing of cash and cell phone from a youth in 2005 from Uppala, damaging of public property at Paivalike the same year, murder attempt on a youth in Uppala Sonkal in 2006, theft of car from Karnataka the same year, illegal liquor transportation, robbing cash from a youth from Uppala railway station, and theft of car from Manjeshwar Kunjathur, are some of the cases he has been facing.

In 2007, cases relating to theft of car, theft from a house in Udyavar, murder attempt of a youth in Paivalike Baikatte, were registered against him. In 2012, he had blocked police from Manjeshwar from discharging their duties, and tried to assault them. Assault on a youth, damaging of two houses, hatching a plan of assault at Kanyana, were registered in 2013, in which he was named as accused. He also faces case relating to robbing of Rs 4.5 lac in cash from a motor bike rider from Paivalike Kattadamane, and robbing of six lac rupees from another motor bike rider from Arikkadi. Reportedly, he had forced himself into a private finance concern at Bekal and robbed Rs 20,000 in cash apart from 113 sovereigns of gold ornaments.

When sub-inspector of Manjeshwar police station, Pramod, tried to arrest him on June 27, 2014, the accused had hit his car against the police vehicle, besides brandishing a revolver and posing death threats to the police. The police had formed a special team to arrest Hameed. On getting information that he was sighted at Manjeshwar Udyavar, the police went there and succeeded in taking him into custody.

The accused was produced in court. DySP, T P Ranjith, said that the police will seek police custody of the accused to get more details relating to the crimes he was involved with. The police are also on the look out for some other accomplices of Hameed.

    Bro Hassan mukka,

let all muslim take an oath n resolution that they will engage in any minor or major criminal n anti social activities...n shall build a peaceful n just society....remember one cant b called as muslim if his neighbour is not happy about him. A true muslim cant have food if his neighbour is starving.. a muslim cannot lie. Create an environment where u r welcomed n respected...lets teach the values n morales to our children. Let us make them proud citizens n true n practicing muslims...v muslims should be role model for others.. we do pray n fast n give zakaath but we should b sincere n true followers of quranic teachings n prophetic guidance..we should strive to lead our life n live as per guidance given to us in quran and our beloved prophet.. I agree that there are black sheeps in every community but the number of criminals n black sheeps are much more in our community compared to other faiths....if this alarming number is not stopped our black sheeps will multiply..there will b chaos n desertions..divorces....a deserted family is sure of producing criminals..we should treat the cause n should nit treat the symptoms....just go to any bank and ask for defaulters of loan....our community members outnumber others...is it Islam?..
A muslim has a greater responsibility towards his society, towards his neighbour, towards his parents n siblings..Our prophet n rightly guided khalifas like umar have asked us not to eat from stolen cattles....how many of us have been strictly following this teaching? I have stopped eating beef.. the only beef I consume is during bakrid,, that too from a sacrificed animal whose source is halal n not stolen...why to steal others cattles just to feed ones family member. Our earnings should be halal n legal n shariah compliance. Halal earnings in islam means which is clean pure n lawfully belongs to its owner..halal is blessed earnings..lets all muslims resolve that we shll not engage or initiate any illegal act.

Mr.Nawaz Kukkikatte or any right thinking person, please remember that there are black sheep in every community. When it comes to the muslim community, the news is distorted beyond limits. We strongly believe that the culprits must be punished, let he/she belong to any community or caste. How come Hameed is charged with attempt murder of the station sub-inspector!? May be this is the case of 'fixing'.

small family is the cure for all problems. please don't think of having dozens of children when you are not able to provide quality education or food. again this is general for everybody, not directed to any particular religion.

Beary community please wake up n give good education to your community members. These anti social elements are spoiling the name of our community. Any crime, cattle theft or drug peddling, love n kidnap abduction hawala racket gold smuggling illegal n anti social activities these beary members are in front run..bcoz of these few bunch whole muslim community is defamed n blamed..now on police and press shd if a muslim suspect is charged as to which community amongst muslim he is from such as turkis, bearys, nawaithis, these three are major lingual sects n devisions prevalent in coastal karnataka..I m fed up with muslim names flashing in coastal karnataka.. I know I ll face tough criticism from my own community but I m sure members of muslim turki (urdu speaking) n nawaithi (konkani speaking) community members ll agree with me as they are educated n economically strong in coastal Karnataka. Thank you

Mr.Shahnawaz, We need more people like you in all communities who can guide people in right direction.
one of the suggestion can be, if the community leaders request people to limit their children to 2-3 then parents can focus in individual development of child, limiting the burdens.

ANTI SOCIAL ELEMENTS CAPTURED BY POLICE IS GREAT, NOW CARE HAS TO BE TAKEN THAT THEY SHOULD NOT GET BAIL. OTHERWISE THEY WILL SUCCEED IN EXPANDING ANTI SOCIAL ACTIVITY LIKE THEFT, ABDUCTION, ROBBERY, MURDER ETC.
