Mangalore: JKS to host global conclave for Konkani language planning on Aug 24

Mangalore, Jul 30: Jagotik Konkani Songhotton (JKS) will organize a global conclave for 'Konkani Language Planning' on August 24 at Kalaangann in Shaktinagar here.

Addressing the media at Mangalore Press Club on Wednesday July 30, JKS general secretary Eric Ozario said, “This global conclave will be historic as it proposes to lay down the roadmap for Konkani’s progress and future at the global, national, regional, and local level.”

Vishnu Wagh, MLA, Goa, will inaugurate the ceremony. Tomazinho Cardozo, former speaker, Goa Assembly, will preside over the function. Dr S Imtiaz Hasnain, professor of Sociolinguistics, Aligarh Muslim University, will present the ‘Concept Paper’.

Vasanth Shetty, columnist, Bangalore, will speak on ‘The Importance of Language Planning in the Context of Globalization’. Andre Rafael Fernandes, associate professor, Goa University, will speak on the ‘Need for Language Planning for Konkani’, while Dr Norbert Lobo, president, AMUCT, will moderate the discussions. Eric Ozario, general secretary, JKS, will present the ‘Plan of Action’.

There will also be a grand celebration of ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ presided over by Roy Castelino, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

“Around 200 delegates from around the world, belonging to every region, religion, dialect, and script of Konkani will participate,” said Ozario.

K K Utharan, vice-president of JKS, Vasant Bandekar, Karwar, K Vishwanathan, Kerala, Louis J Pinto, Mangalore, and executive committee members were also present during the conference.
