Bangalore, Jul 29: It was a special day for the Konkani lovers of Bangalore as the 38th ‘Wilson Olivera Nite' enthralled over 1,000 people packed in Good Shepherd auditorium. The event was organized by ‘Konkani Samudai’ Jayanagar, Bangalore and was partnered by a popular entrepreneur of Sharjah, UAE, Lawrence D’souza and co-sponsored by many well wishers. Incidentally it was during his tenure as the president of SMMKC,Sharjah, Wilson Olivera Nite organized at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Dubai too saw a ‘house full’ crowd were several Konkani lovers had to return home without tickets.
Indeed this particular show was expected to be a grand gala as the tickets were sold out a day before the events, perhaps for the first time in the history of Bangalore. It was not easy to understand the cause for such an overwhelming response – whether it was Wilson Olivera’s popularity or the Internationally acclaimed Master of Ceremony Ronald Olivera’s 50th Konkani show as an MC or the sheer hard work of the committee members of ‘Konkani Samudai”, Jayanagar. At the end of the program, it was evident that it was the combination of all the three factors.
The Program started with the enthralling welcome from Charles Gomes, the founder of the association, who invited the chief guest Aida D’cunha. Chairperson – FKCA, President of Konkani Samudai Irene D’souza , Secretary Vinod Monteiro and Immediate Past President Lawrence Saldanha to the dias. After lighting of the lamp Mrs. Irene D’souza welcomed the chief Guest , other invitees and the audience. Chief Guest Aida D’cunha congratulated Konkani Samudai in their endeavors towards keeping the Konkani active and welfare of the society. In his Vote of thanks speech Vinod Monteiro thanked all sponsors , well wishers and the audience for the overwhelming support.
The long awaited musical nite began with ‘Sangeeth Sardar’ Wilson Olivera singing ‘Punvecho Chandrem Laztha’. The tremendous applause from the audience was a proof enough to show that they appreciated the melodious voice of ‘Konkani Mannik’ Wilson Olivera. Then entered the Master of Ceremony Ronald Olivera in the midst of the thunderous applause, who set the stage on fire with his wit, humour and fluency in the language. There was no looking back since then.
The other famous singers Rony D’Cunha, Zeena Pereira , Robin Sequera, Pradeep Pinto, Babita Pinto, Carol Sequera and Stuart Olivera were the perfect match for the show.
The foot tapping melody of music from renowned musician well known as A.R Rahman of Konkani Adrian Gomes, who was ably supported his team, which included his multi talented son, Alston Gomes, ‘Konkani Drummer Shivamani’ fame Sachin, Veekshit and Ashwin Correa who mesmerized the audience
The rib-tickling comedy skits by Mellu, Moras and Richa who are popularly known as ‘Me Mo Ri’ was enjoyed to the fullest by one and all.
The entire stage was rocked by dancers from “ Naach Sobhan” (choreographed by Avil D’Cruz) who enhanced the beauty of the event.
Wilson Olivera was honoured by Konkani Samudai with a shawl and memento. Ronald Olivera was specially honoured as this was his 50th stage as master of ceremony in Konkani, who has the honour of performing as an anchor to as many as eleven Konkani composers.
The entire three-hour fun-filled event was anchored by Ronald Olivera who kept the audience glued to the chairs with his meticulous jokes and handled the entire event with his own unique, humorous and flawless style.
All audience thanked Konkani Samudai for arranging this full packed event with songs, Music, Dance and Comedy.
