Mangalore, Jul 26: The members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday July 26 allegedly abused the principal of University College at Hampankatta during celebrations following the college elections.
It is said that soon after the college student council election results were declared, the students broke out in celebrations and held a victory procession. The ABVP reportedly brought two mini buses and parked them inside the campus, to which college principal Satyanarayana Rao objected.
Also, it is alleged that the ABVP also brought former students of the college and outsiders to participate in the procession, without the permission of the principal.
Arguments arose between the principal, the lecturers and the ABVP and students, and in the chaos that followed, ABVP members who were outsiders allegedly pushed a lecturer and also insulted the the principal with abusive words.
The Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Based on a complaint by Satyanarayana Rao, the Pandeshwar police filed an FIR. Further investigations are on.
Earlier, during the college elections, Shyam Prasad Bhat was elected the president while Ashok was chosen as secretary and Shwetha Herala as joint secretary.
