Kundapur, Jul 26: Manasa Aithal (25), who had sustained grievous injuries after a recklessly driven truck hit three pedestrians at Koteshwar on July 23 this year, breathed her last on Friday July 25.
Manasa, who hailed from Arasarabettu in Beejady near Koteshwar, had been admitted into Manipal Hospital for treatment after the accident, but efforts made by doctors attending her to save her failed to succeed.
A truck loaded with gunny bags containing rice, which was being driven by a person named Asif, had unloaded a part of its consignment in a godown at Koteshwar. The driver, who was trying to overtake another vehicle thereafter, had knocked down three pedestrians walking by the side of the highway.
In this accident, Srinivasa Bhat, who was serving as priest at Lord Harihara temple in Kumbashi, who was critically injured, had lost his life on the spot, Manasa, who suffered extensive injured, was rushed to Manipal for treatment.
Manasa happened to be one among the three children of Poornayya Aithal and Gayatri Aithal from Arasarabettu in Beejady in the taluk. It is learnt that normally she used to return to her home by bus after attending computer classes, but on that fateful day, had chosen to walk home from Koteshwar.
