Karkala, Jul 25: Policemen belonging to the town station here succeeded in arresting Muhammed Iqbal alias Ikka (43), a resident of Modankap in Bantwal taluk, presently residing at Banglegudde here. He was arrested on Wednesday July 23.
Iqbal has been accused of being involved with several thefts in the past.
Reportedly, he had stolen nine sovereigns of gold from a house in Farangipet, Bantwal during May last year after breaking open the door lock, breaking open the doors of a house near Salman Masjid in Banglegudde and taking away one sovereign gold ornaments along with silver valuables, stealing gold ornaments and silverware from a house in second cross in Banglegudde, and cash amounting to Rs 5,000 from the provisions store run by Aisamma in Banglegudde first ward.
The policemen extracted this information during his questioning.
The arrest was made by circle inspector, G M Naykar and town police sub-inspector, Kabbal Raj H D under the leadership of local assistant superintendent of police, Annamalai and the guidance of the district superintendent of police.
