Kundapur, Jul 24: Noted educationist and trainer Prof A C Thunga (72) from the district passed away at a private hospital in Bangalore on the evening of Wednesday July 23.
Prof Airodi Chandrashekhar Thunga was born at Airodi near Sasthan in Udupi district. After completing M Sc postgraduate degree at Mysore, he joined Bhandarkar's College here as a lecturer of statistics in 1965. He served as the head of the department of statistics for long, and even served as the principal of the college between 1992 and 2000.
After his retirement, he continued to serve education sector in the capacity of principal of Upendra Pai Memorial College in Udupi. He has an army of admirers who have benefitted from his teaching style and leadership skills.
Prof Thunga had been the president of the Association of Mangalore University Statistics Teachers for sometime, besides serving Jaycees and Rotary in different capacities. He had also been noted as a programme organizer of National Service Scheme both at the state and national levels.
Prof Thunga was a gifted orator, excellent trainer, and a statistics professor known for his lucid style of teaching and mastery over the subject. He had organized various personality development and motivational entrepreneurship programmes all over the state and helped scores of people to emerge as successful leaders in their lives. He had trained all kinds of students from those who found studies tough, to those who were to appear for Indian Administrative Services examinations.
Prof Thunga had got admitted into a private hospital at Bangalore recently after a brief illness. His family sources said that he breathed his last on Wednesday, after medicines failed to heal lhim. Prof Thunga has left behind wife and three sons.
