Udupi, Jul 23: Two brothers were feared drowned after their boat capsized while fishing in Sita river at Harady near Brahmavar here Wednesday July 23.

The deceased brothers are identified as Suresh Marakala (36) and Jayakara Marakala (30). Avinash(23), the son of their elder sister who had gone with them luckily escaped.

Suresh, Jayakar and Avinash used to go fishing every day in the river near their house as currently there is a ban on fishing in the sea. They had gone by boat on Wednesday morning as usual.

Unfortunately their boat capsized due to an unexpected storm. Suresh and Jayakar, despite being good swimmers, were pulled in by the strong currents. Avinash managed to swim ashore.

Suresh Marakala leaves behind his wife and an year-old son. Jayakar was unmarried.

Udupi fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and began searching for the bodies. Kundapur assistant commissioner Yogeshwar, Brahmavar tahsildar H K Thippeswamy, DSP Prabhudev Mane, Brahmavar police circle inspector Arun B Nayak, sub inspector Girish Kumar S and others visited the spot.
