Kundapur, Jul 23: A waiter was bitten by a kraite snake on Tuesday July 22, at a recently opened bar near Konkan Railway road under Hattiangady panchayat limits.

The person is identified as Vijay Shetty, who was working in a bar as a waiter.

While he was busy working, the venemous snake entered into the bar and bit on his right cheek, it is said. Vijay fainted at the spot. The other workers in the bar took him to the government hospital at Kundapur.

Vijay's condition deteriorated further after he suffered reaction from the injection administered to him at the government hospital, and he was immediately shifted him to the private hospital in Kundapur. As the poison spread to his body, his condition turned serious. He is still in the ICU of the private hospital.

The bar which opened just two months ago, is located near the Hattiangady railway road. The locals including women expressed their anger over the location of the bar. The railway road is steep and the bar is located in a dangerous spot. A few women also expressed their anger saying that they were facing problems at home because of the bar.

"If there is no protection for the workers inside the bar, how will customers be safe? There are Dalit families residing in the area and the bar has been opened here deliberately. The department concerned should take quick action on the owner of the bar and seal the bar immediately," said Mohanchandra Kalavara of land development office and training department, Kalavara.
