Mangalore, Jul 22: A day after 17 members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned, including some of its founding members, the Dakshina Kannada unit of AAP held its general body meeting on Sunday July 20, with invitations extended to all active members across the district.
A press release from the party stated that more than fifty persons attended the meeting and many members called expressing full cooperation, support and regretted their absence due to previous pre-occupations and inclement weather conditions, especially the outstation members.
"The mood of the meeting was upbeat and enthusiastic with all members fully resolved to uphold ideals, aims of the party especially against corruption and more so in the prevailing post Lok Sabha elections scenario. Many decisions and guidelines were discussed about the future course of action and the direction of the party in the immediate future," the release stated.
"An ad-hoc committee was formed to attend/solve/handle immediate and pressing organisational issues. This committee shall take action to pave way for a more permanent officiating body shortly. As per our mission and norms, the party will form committees in all taluk in DK district very shorty," stated the release.
On the issue of resignations by its members, the AAP stated, "The resignation of certain 'founder members' as reported in the press was noted and dismissed as a 'farce'. The members who resigned included those who had been expelled, resigned or left voluntarily a couple of months back. Further many members whose names were mentioned telephoned and expressed their ignorance about the reported statement and gave their full commitment to the party. Some among them even attended the meeting after explaining their position and the unlawful inclusion of their names without permission. It was noted that only a few, a couple of members, to avoid self appreciation as per state order had created this problem by going to the press when they were well aware that this meeting was to be held."
The release further stated, "It was noted that our party will pressurize Mangalore city corporation to have ward committee in all 60 wards. As per the high court order, (the MCC) had to do so, but it is still not done. The party has already sent request to form the ward committee to MCC mayor along with copies to the DC and the city corporation commissioner a couple of weeks back."
"Dayanand Someshwar ably presided over the meeting, assisted by Walter Menezes, Joseph Martis besides others. The next general body shall be held shortly. Invitation goes out for more members to join the movement against corruption," the release stated.
